Modern analog displays also include chronographic functions which are often called complications or secondary watch function. Analog display sit atop all types of displays – also complements formal attire.
Digital Display
A digital display communicates time in a more readable format. Since we are more familiar with the numbers than making out time by hands position of a watch digital watch display comes handy. Most watches feature a digital display of time, date and other features.
Generally a digital display shows time in hh:mm:ss format in 12 or 24 hour mode. A digital display uses led or LCD. It also has knobs on one or both sides of the watch to set/reset time or changing display settings.
Today’s digital watches are more fashionable and less expensive than the earlier ones.

Watch Parts
Watch Case Shape
A case houses all communicative components is the vital and the strongest part of a watch. Different regular shapes make a watch case- Round, Square, Tonneau, Rectangle and other geometrical shapes. Most popular of all shapes is a round case which is ideal construction of a watch. Many men wear their dress watches in round case since it offers easy display and able to accommodate all components uniformly.
Next preferred case design is Tonneau. Round and Tonneau look equally fabulous and suit men’s style. A square case is in fact a rectangle in dimensions. However, square and cushion shapes are less popular than round case.
Watch Dial
Watch dial is the face of a watch which contains timekeeping parts. It is protected by a thick robust crystal which allows one hundred percent transparency to the display. Usually a white or a black dial will give clear visibility to the wearer. Blue and grey are also possible colour choices, blue being chiefly used in a stainless steel or silver case. Blue and black dials appear more sophisticated and often give sharp contrast with white or silver colour hands.

How To Select A Wrist watch For You
Size
Size of dial should be in balance with the wrist. A dress watch usually has a dial range of (35-45 mm) which varies for different wrist sizes. Men can select any dial size between this range for their wrist width. Too big a dial will look awkward on a relatively smaller wrist. Bigger dials are for more casual watches, hence while deciding a watch consider a dial size for you. If you are buying a watch for work, choose a medium sized dial.
Similarly strap width is also very important factor. Generally an average difference of 20 mm can be seen between a dial width and strap width. For instance a dial of 40-42 mm width should be attached with a 20-22 mm strap. Some men wear a small dial with wide strap or wide dial with a small strap. Both are wrong situations.
Dial Colour & Strap Colour
Different men prefer different dial colour. Choose a black, white, blue or light grey if you want to wear a formal watch. These colours are standard dial colours and coordinate with all the outfits and leather shoes as well.
Strap colour should coordinate with dial colour, i.e. dark blue or a charcoal grey dial looks better with a dark brown strap. A black monochrome or a green dial watch is more casual. Strap colours blue or green are also more casual as they would also not coordinate with your belt and shoes in a formal outfit.
